Bayern Munchens Champions League Semi-final Draw

Bayern Munich 2-2 Real Madrid Champions League semi-final first leg as it happened

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night. The German champions took the lead twice through Kingsley Coman and Thomas Muller, but Real Madrid hit back on both occasions through Karim Benzema and Jamal Musiala. The result leaves the tie finely poised heading into the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.

Bayern Munich started the game brightly and took the lead after just three minutes when Coman fired home from close range. Real Madrid responded well to going behind and Benzema equalised with a header from a Toni Kroos cross. Bayern Munich regained the lead just before half-time when Muller headed home from a Joshua Kimmich cross.

Real Madrid came out strong in the second half and Musiala levelled the scores with a fine strike from outside the box. Bayern Munich had chances to win the game but they could not find a way past Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The result means that the tie is still very much in the balance heading into the second leg.

Conclusion

The first leg of the Champions League semi-final between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid was a thrilling encounter that could have gone either way. The German champions will be disappointed not to have won the game, but they will still be confident of progressing to the final when they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu next week.
