Redshirt Decision Last Year Paying Off Now for Nebraska Defensive Lineman

Husker junior AJ Henry enjoying a breakout season after taking the 2022 season off

Nebraska defensive lineman AJ Henry is making the most of his opportunity this season after redshirting in 2022.

The junior defensive tackle has started every game this season and has recorded 14 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks.

Henry's breakout season is a testament to the benefits of redshirting. Redshirting allows a player to spend a year practicing with the team but not playing in games. This can be a valuable year for development, as it gives players time to get stronger, faster, and more acclimated to the college game.

Henry taking full advantage of opportunity

Henry is taking full advantage of his opportunity to play this season. He is playing with confidence and is making a difference for the Huskers.

Nebraska defensive coordinator Erik Chinander said Henry is a "disruptive force" on the defensive line.

"He's got a great motor and he's always around the football," Chinander said. "He's a guy that we can count on to make plays."

Henry's decision to redshirt paying off

Henry's decision to redshirt last season is paying off this season. He is now a key contributor to the Huskers' defense.

Henry said he is grateful for the opportunity to play this season.

"I'm just trying to make the most of my opportunity," Henry said. "I'm just trying to help the team win."
