TMC MP Jawhar Sircar resigns from Rajya Sabha, likely to join BJP
Kolkata, India -
Trinamool Congress MP Jawhar Sircar has resigned from the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. In a letter submitted to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, Sircar stated personal reasons for his decision to辞任. However sources close to him claim he is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).
Sircar's resignation comes amid growing speculation that he was unhappy with the TMC leadership, particularly after he was not given a ticket to contest the recent West Bengal assembly elections. Sources close to Sircar claim that he had been in talks with the BJP for some time and was offered a Rajya Sabha nomination by the party.
Sircar is a prominent leader from West Bengal and has been a member of the Rajya Sabha since 2010. He is known as a respected intellectual and a strong advocate for the rights of the marginalized. His resignation is a significant blow to the TMC, which is already facing a leadership crisis after its defeat in the recent assembly elections.
Sircar's resignation is the latest in a series of high-profile defections from the TMC to the BJP. In recent months, several TMC leaders, including former minister Suvendu Adhikari and former MLA Jitendra Tiwari, have joined the BJP. The BJP is making a strong push to gain control of West Bengal, where it has been the main opposition party for over a decade.
The TMC has accused the BJP of luring its leaders with promises of power and position. The BJP, however, has denied these allegations, saying that its doors are open to all those who believe in its ideology. The political realignments in West Bengal are expected to intensify in the coming months as the state prepares for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
