Barça crashes out of the Champions League despite a spirited display

Raphinha and Ferran Torres pick up late bookings

Xavi's men bow out after 4-1 aggregate defeat to PSG

Barcelona's Champions League hopes were dashed on Wednesday night as they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their quarter-final tie. The Blaugrana had gone into the game with a 3-2 deficit from the first leg, but a Kylian Mbappe masterclass proved too much for Xavi's men.

PSG took the lead in the 32nd minute through Mbappe, who fired home from the edge of the area. Barcelona equalized just before half-time through Lionel Messi, but Mbappe restored PSG's lead in the 51st minute. Neymar then made it 3-1 in the 64th minute, before Mbappe completed his hat-trick in the 85th minute.

The defeat was a bitter blow for Barcelona, who had been hoping to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2019. Xavi's men had given a spirited performance, but they were ultimately outclassed by a PSG side that was simply too good on the night.

In the end, it was Raphinha and Ferran Torres who picked up late yellow cards for Barcelona. The bookings were a fitting end to a frustrating night for the Blaugrana, who will now have to focus on winning the La Liga title.
